If you knew that you would be provided for every day of your life from now until you die, how would that change your perspective of today? If you knew everything was going to work out for your very best, no matter what, how would that change your concern for the outcome of your day-to-day life? If you had no fear of failure, no fear of lack, and no fear for your safety and the safety of those in your care, how much freer would you be today?
When we think about not having a care in this world – and what it would take for us to be (and operate) that way, our minds usually jump to the thought of winning the lottery, or receiving a multi-million dollar inheritance. But can I tell you that if we know Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we have something (and Someone) greater than the latest mega-jackpot winner? And can I tell you that what we have in Him applies to this life, and the next?
I’d like to offer you (and me) a new perspective on life – one that KNOWS God is going to come through on our behalf. One that’s not afraid that the “other shoe is going to drop.” If you have it “good” right now, don’t fear losing it (He provided whatever “it” is the first time, so He will provide what you need again). If you are struggling right now, don’t fear that the struggles will last forever. Understand that God’s very best for you is all that He desires and is what He is going to work out. All you need to do is seek Him first in every aspect of your life, because knowing Him is all that matters anyway. He gives us the things of this world to enjoy, but they aren’t the ultimate. Knowing Him is the ultimate, but oh, by the way, He will also provide for your human needs along the way if we will learn to seek Him first. Matthew 6:26 says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” The perspective of a bird – flying through the air – certainly taking care to ensure they fly right and get to their destination the best they can, but understanding that their ultimate provision comes from God.
I want that perspective.
On the way to work this morning I had a conversation with God. In that conversation He made it clear to me that His provision doesn’t (and won’t) run out. This comforted me greatly – and gave me the ability to relax in Him as I entered the day. Duress and tribulation and trial and suffering are meant to draw us to Him. If we are pursuing Him in the good times, we don’t have to fear disaster around the corner. Why? Because if we are pursuing Him in the good times, when we do face trials and the testing of our faith (which we will), we will know that His provision will never run out. We will have confidence because “we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV). We will understand that “your heavenly Father knows that you need them,” (Matthew 6:32, NIV) and therefore we won’t fear that the things we need won’t be provided.
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matthew 6:33, NIV)
This is a great article on Provision! I love the play on words that you have to be Pro, I want to add active toward the Vision and the truth of Lord by His Word about provision. This brings faith because “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” to believe He provides as well as brings truth and understanding how he provides for His children or Provision. Another applicable verse is “without knowledge (vision)my people perish”. It built my faith to hear of how the Lord spoke to you, and believe in this world of tension, fear, and anxiety about finances, we need this type of encouragement among the Body of Christ to edify one another to remember who we are in Christ, and that we can have peace about His provision, that He died for us to enjoy!
